Welcome to My 3D Printing Journey
Hi there! I’m Kobe Mentzer, and I’m absolutely passionate about the incredible world of 3D printing. What started as curiosity about this “magical” technology that could create physical objects from digital files has evolved into a decade-long obsession that I’m excited to share with you.
My 3D Printing Story
My journey began in 2014 when I first encountered a MakerBot Replicator at a local maker space. Watching that first benchy boat emerge layer by layer was nothing short of mesmerizing. I was hooked instantly. That single moment sparked what would become an endless pursuit of understanding every aspect of additive manufacturing.
Over the years, I’ve gone from struggling with bed adhesion issues on my first Ender 3 to successfully printing everything from intricate miniatures to functional replacement parts for household appliances. I’ve experienced the frustration of failed prints at 90% completion, the joy of a perfect first layer, and the satisfaction of solving complex printing challenges through trial, error, and countless hours of research.
What I Bring to the Table
Experience Across Multiple Technologies: I’ve worked extensively with FDM, SLA, and SLS printing technologies. My workshop houses seven different printers, from budget-friendly models to high-end industrial machines, giving me hands-on experience across the entire spectrum of consumer and prosumer 3D printing.
Materials Expertise: Through years of experimentation, I’ve developed deep knowledge of various printing materials – from standard PLA and PETG to advanced composites like carbon fiber filaments and exotic materials like wood-filled and metal-filled filaments. I’ve learned their quirks, optimal settings, and best applications through countless hours of testing.
Design and Engineering Background: My formal education in mechanical engineering, combined with self-taught CAD skills in Fusion 360, SolidWorks, and Blender, allows me to approach 3D printing from both technical and creative perspectives. I understand not just how to print, but how to design for optimal printability.
Community Involvement: I’m an active member of several 3D printing communities, regularly participate in maker spaces, and have helped dozens of newcomers troubleshoot their first printers and achieve their first successful prints.
Why I Started This Blog
After years of learning through trial and error, scouring forums for solutions, and gradually building my expertise, I realized how fragmented and sometimes overwhelming 3D printing information can be for newcomers. I wanted to create a resource that bridges the gap between absolute beginner and experienced maker.
This blog exists to:
- Demystify 3D printing technology for those just starting their journey
- Provide honest, detailed reviews of printers, materials, and accessories based on real-world testing
- Share practical solutions to common (and uncommon) printing challenges
- Explore the creative possibilities that 3D printing opens up
- Keep you updated on the latest developments in this rapidly evolving field

My Philosophy
I believe 3D printing should be accessible to everyone, not just engineers and tech enthusiasts. While the technology can be complex, the fundamental concepts are approachable with the right guidance. My goal is to make that guidance clear, practical, and encouraging.
I also believe in the power of the maker community. Some of my best learning experiences have come from collaboration, sharing failures as openly as successes, and contributing to the collective knowledge that makes this hobby so rewarding.
Beyond 3D Printing
When I’m not tinkering with printers or writing about the latest filament innovations, you might find me rock climbing (where I print custom gear organizers), playing guitar (yes, I’ve printed several instruments), or exploring photography (including macro shots of print layers that reveal the beautiful structure of additive manufacturing).
I’m also passionate about sustainable making and frequently write about recycling filament, reducing waste, and using 3D printing to repair rather than replace items.
Let’s Connect
3D printing is more fun when it’s shared. I love hearing from readers about their projects, challenges, and discoveries. Whether you’re troubleshooting your first printer or pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with advanced materials, I’m here to help and learn alongside you.
Feel free to reach out through the contact form, connect with me on social media, or join our community discussions in the comments. Your questions and experiences not only help you but also contribute to the collective knowledge that makes this community so special.
Here’s to bringing digital dreams into physical reality, one layer at a time!
Happy Printing!
